A Non-Profit corporation to honor and recognize the accomplishments of Lauretta Schimmoler, the first female to be involved in acquiring the land and then manage that airport in the United States, Port Bucyrus - Crawford County Airport - 17G - Bucyrus, Ohio.
She then moved to California, was active in the 99’s (their first secretary), and then in the mid-30’s started the “Aerial Nurse Corps of America” which ultimately became the foundation of the United States Air Force Flight Nurses. She played a significant roll in aviation history both locally and nationally.
Saturday - September 21, 2024 starting at 8:00 AM at Port Bucyrus Airport (17G) Crawford County Airport with a pancake breakfast hosted by Kiwanis, Bratwurst sandwiches and other food trucks Sweet Thangs Kettle Corn, Farmers Market, Flea Market, car show and other craft items and much more. PBY, TBM Avenger, the Grimes Flying Lab, a Cessna O-2, FAASTeam presentations, and other events to be announced soon.
This will be an event on Thursday, September 19th starting at tentatively 6:00 PM at the Hord Hangar with the featured speaker being Cynthia Broze, author of the newly released book “Aerial Nurse Corps of American” which features the story of Lauretta Schimmoler, who started the Bucyrus Airport and went on to be recognized by the United States Air Force as the founder of Flight Nurses and credited with the concept of air evacuation and medivac as we know it today.

We have just formed the Lauretta Schimmoler Museum Inc. a 501 (c)(3) to educate and promote the many accomplishments of Lauretta during her life.
